LA Part2 (under construction)

Crashing in Charlie's living room was much like falling asleep
on the couch of the library at the Grand Teton's Climbers' Ranch
...except sunnier.

These are some interesting expandable Stubai ice tools that he used on Denali and in the Bolivian Andes, among many places. Note the head on the tool on the right, which can be used for climbing vertical ice. I can't think of any tools on the market like these right now.

This is a poster of John Sherman "the Vermin" that adorns Charlie's porcelain throne. For all you boulderers, the "V" in the rating system comes from the "V" in "Sherman the Vermin".

Charlie is 4th year medical resident busy patching up chollos & other people unfortunate enough to have to visit the LA County Emergency department. He was super generous with his time and gave a grand tour of LA... inlcuding Pasadena, West Hollywood, Pacific Pallisades
Santa Monica, Marina del Ray, and Venice Beach.

The water at Santa Monica was a bit chillier than I expected.
Burr! so that's why those surfer dudes we drove by were wearing wetsuits!
Palisades Park

Charlie is the only person I personally know that can say "I need three porters" in Pashtun (or Farsi?). While medicine takes up much of his time, he is an accomplished climber & alpinist in his own right, having been a former YOSAR member, Denali Summiter, as well as having lived near the Karakorum.

He introduced me to climbing by giving me this for a present in early 2005....
